Generally the test is applicable to hot mix designs using bitumen and aggregates uptoa maximum size of 25mm. In this method, the resistance to plastic deformation of
cylindrical specimen of bituminous mixture is measured when the same is loaded at periphery at 5 cm per min. This test procedure is used in designing and  evaluating bituminous paving mixes. The test procedure is extensively used in routine test programmers for paving jobs. There are two major features of the Marshall method of designing mixes namely, a) density – voids analysis b) Stability – flow tests. The marshall stability of mix is defined as a maximum load carried by a compacted specimen at a standard test temperature of 60oC. The flow value is deformation the marshall test specimen under goes during the loading upto the maximum load, 0.25 mm units. In this test and attempt is made to determine optimum binder content for the type of aggregate mix and traffic intensity.

Concrete Moulds are easily cast by using a tamping bar or a vibrating table.  However air trapped in cement mortar paste can not be thus removed while casting cement mortar moulds.  Easy method is to impart greater vibration of lesser amplitude to the mould while casting.  This is achieved in a Vibrating Machine.  Vibrating Machine is used for the preparation of mortar cubes for the determination of compression strength of ordinary and rapid hardening Portland cement, low heat Portland cement, Portland blast furnace cement and high alumina cements.

Specifications: 
The machine consists of a vibrating frame assembly and an electric motor mounted on a sturdy base.  The complete frame assembly consists of a vice to hold a 7.06cm cube mould and two studs threaded at top and a hopper to feed the sample in the mould.  This assembly is supported on four springs and has an in built rotating shaft which rotates eccentrically and thus imparts vibrations to the entire frame.  A balance weight is an integral bottom part of the frame.  The centre of gravity of the assembly is brought to the centre of the eccentric shaft or within a distance of 25mm below it.  The electric motor drives the shaft of the frame and thus imparts required vibrations to the mould.  The frequency of vibration is 12000 ± 400 vibration per minute.  Supplied complete with a 7.06cm cube mould and loose base plate, a time switch 0-5mins x 1 min and certificate of vibration.

There is a silicon solar photocell placed on top of the sensor mount, so that it is having a large viewing angle almost 180 degrees. The f sun’s presence is computed by the following principle, A shadow-band is rotated around the sensor to obtain the total incoming radiation, and diffused radiation (when the sensor is covered by the shadow band) by comparing the diffused and total radiation, we can assert the presence of sun. The shadow-band width is sufficient to cover the sun so that, a shadow falls on the sensor at any angle of sun. To minimize sensor position shift during seasonal sun’s change we have provided sufficiently large shadow-band. The output of the sensor is amplified and the variation between the diffused and total is compared using a precision analog comparator and driven through a mono stable multi-vibrator. There is a LED indication on the top, which indicates the presence of sun; this will help during installation and adjusting the threshold levels.For Threshold adjustments a potentiometer is provided this potentiometer can be accessed by removing the water tight rubber bushes on the sensor body. The sensor is already set for it’s optimum levels from factory.
